| AltoLab Research Studies |
| Clinical research studies have been used to test the AltoLab system on running performance, cycling performance and kayaking performance. These studies are all different types of altitude training that is also known as Intermittent Hypoxic Training (IHT). This was first discovered in Russia in the 1940's when their air force pilots would pass out at altitudes above 15,000 ft because of the decreased partial pressure of oxygen. The Russian air force explored ways to train their pilots so that they could remain conscious flying up to 20,000 ft. They discovered that adaptation to high altitude could be accomplished if the pilots were exposed to repeated, short durations of high altitude for several minutes rather than continuous exposure for several weeks. Later, they developed a system of breathing nitrogen with reduced oxygen content to simulate high altitude. Those studies improved IHT schedules. |
