The hypoxic silo is absolutely essential
for making AltoLab work. It removes the
carbon dioxide from the air you exhale.
This exhaled air is now low in oxygen, by
mixing this with fresh air coming in
through the base of the AltoLab unit, it
effectively lowers the oxygen content to
simulate high altitude conditions. It is this
low-content oxygen that you breathe in
that stimulates your body to start making
its own EPO (erythropoetin), the hormone
that stimulates red blood cell production.
This is one of the major benefits of
altitude training.

Each AltoMixer is equal to about 5000 ft. in
altitude. Breathing through one is equal to
about 5000 ft. and won't usually cause a
drop in % blood oxygen. Breathing through 2
mixers is equal to 10,000 ft. that causes a
drop to about 90-92% blood oxygen. With 3
mixers the % blood oxygen blood will drop to
between 84-90%, and with 4 it will go down
to 75-84%. It's as simple as that. You can
add or remove AltoMixers as you need.
Because some very well-trained, Olympic
caliber athletes are so efficient at oxygen
absorption and retention, they find that they
need to use up to 8 AltoMixers before they
see their blood oxygen drop. If YOU fall into
this category you have developed extremely
efficient oxygen retention mechanisms.

For hygienic reasons we recommend that
the mouthpiece and air tube not be shared
between individuals. It is best if each person
has their own, personal breathing kit which
includes a mouthpiece, swivel connector,
compressible air tube, 2 bacterial particle
filters, 2 thin foam inserts, a noseclip and a
breathing mask in a zippered pouch. All
parts have been manufactured to medical
grade specifications and include a 1 year
warranty.
AltoLab Breathing Kit includes: 2 bacterial
filters, expandable swivel breathing tube,
connectors, mouthpiece & nose clip, canvas
pouch and 2 thin foam inserts.
