* These studies are forms of altitude training that is also known
as Intermittent Hypoxic Training (IHT) was first discovered in by the Russian air force in the 1940's when
their pilots would pass out at altitudes above 15,000 ft. They trained their pilots in altitude simulators to
stay conscious flying up to 20,000 ft. They discovered that adaptation to high altitude could be
accomplished with repeated, short durations of exposure to reduced oxygen for several minutes rather
than continuously living at altitude for several weeks. The IHT system was later developed for
endurance training in sports. |
